Shareholder Meeting July 2025
Author's Note
Well, it has been while. I've found myself quite busy these past few months. My budding career as a Cement Mason has been kicking off in full gear, i've befriended a number of people in meatspace, while finding free time to work on my creative endeavors. Thank you for attending this Shareholder Meeting, snacks are in the back and we shall begin with my most recent discovery.
Obsidian Fucking Rules
I've become somewhat addicted to using Obsidian lately. I took the plunge last week, downloaded and learned how to use it slowly via tinkering with everything I could see. The graph view game-ifys the experience for me and compels me to create more notes to connect to each other. As such, Anathea will be ported over into Obsidian and then Ctrl-C'd into this Bearblog.
Why? Because it's the first word doc/note-taking app i've used that truly allows me to utilize my unique blend of neurodivergence to its full capacity for creativity.
Anathean Progress
So, I have put the brakes on the Hexcrawl and Dungeons for now. Being one of those things I prefer to do by hand on paper, they take longer and require concentration rituals to do properly. They are something I will not sacrifice quality for, I only want to present things I feel that you could genuinely take and run a session with. Even if it's not the final version, a gameable version is my goal here.
But, Character Creation/Progression is making a large amount of progress every time I work on it. I'm very excited about it, because I am quite proud at how i've blended aspects of OD&D/AD&D/Basic. Non Humans utilize the Race as Class mechanics, but they get unique Variant Classes. I've replaced Elves with Felinians, an alien race of cat people from Venus. Their specific blend of weirdness is having 2 playable sub-types based on the lunar phase of their birthday. Some are Humanoid with cat heads and martial bonuses (Fighter Variant). Others are halfling sized with cat heads and long furry tails, their special trait is that can understand and read all magical script. Spoken language becomes irrelevant. (Variant MU).
Anathean Philosophy - Character Progression
As I've worked on the setting crunch (haha), compiling my favorite specifics from the TSR D&Ds I've had to do on the spot tinkering and thinking about what My D&D is about. Characters that develop through in game play over time, with a few cool shiny stickers to toy around with are important to me. Leveling up should require you to take Downtime to train and reflect on your experiences. My Fighters get a Favored Weapon at Level 4, but they'll have to quest for a teacher that specializes in that weapon and then the character will be away for a few downtime turns.
That's about it for now folks.
A short summary of what's been going on, and an update of what's going on with Anathea and this blog. The usage of Obsidian should make the stream of uploads increase a bit, especially as we come closer to Winter and work slows down for me. I think then, I shall also increase my efforts to run games in meatspace.
Onwards brethren, for the day is dark and we are light that guides.
Until next time, this is the Hand Ov Baal wishing you a fruitful life.
